Keep Fit !
Today I went along to the Ladies Keep Fit group at the Community Centre in Leishman Tower. Its on every Tuesday between 10.30 and 11.30. Chrissie, the woman who takes the class, had asked me along when she was at the launch for the Village Voice. She thought I might be interested in seeing the class, and indeed it was an inspiration. There are about forty regulars and they have had to create a waiting list, as they have reached the limit on the numbers for the hall. The group do their exercises to music selected and organised by Chrissie, as she puts them through their paces. Chrissie is 78 and has been running the class for 17 years. Prior to that it was her sister who was a fitness instructor. The oldest member is 88 and many of the ladies have been coming along for well over a decade! They obviously love the workout and there was a good deal of singing going on !! I was invited to stay on for Tea and Biscuits and "a bit of a blether". Who could refuse! They are a lovely bunch of ladies and as I said already, an inspiration... They really are a great advert for staying active both mentally and physically... I'm going to go back next week to take some photographs, and shoot some video. I also need to take some notes, as I started hearing lots of interesting stories about life in the High Flats, several of the ladies have lived there since the flats were opened in 1967.
